The Port of Holyhead provides an essential sea link between mainland Great Britain and the Republic of Ireland. It is located on Holy Island, which is connected to the Isle of Anglesey by the Four Mile Bridge.
The port offers modest facilities, which cover most of the essentials and include a bureau de change and ATMs as well as disabled persons' toilets, baby-changing facilities and a counter selling snacks and hot and cold beverages.
Holyhead port is mainland Britain's most significant port in terms of providing ferry crossings to the Republic of Ireland. Sailing is considerably cheaper than air travel and combined with nationwide rail connections, the Port of Holyhead is the obvious choice for many passengers bound for Southern Ireland.

There are regular speed and express vessels serving these routes, with journey times of 3 hours, 45 minutes and 1 hour, 40 minutes respectively. The Stena Explorer and the Stena Adventurer both serve these routes.
Irish Ferries provide additional crossings to Dublin City and also operate both regular and express vessels. Journey times are 3 hours, 15 minutes and 1 hour, 50 minutes respectively. Vessels operating this route include the Ulysses and the Jonathan Swift.
